The complete foundry aproach„

Viraj Naidu, Managing Director, Disa India Ltd, shares his thoughts on the benefits of the recent merger with Wheelbrator; predicts a surging growth for the automotive industry and elaborates to EM on the fast-selling products in the Indian market. Excerpts of the interview…

? How do you plan to leverage out of the recent partnership with Wheelabrator? The global merger between the Disa group - a leading foundry solutions company and the Wheelabrator group – the largest surface preparation solutions company spells success in the Indian market. With a well-established footprint since the last 25 years, we can now leverage the Wheelabrator’s range of surface preparation solution in India in the non-foundry segments also. We have just localised the first machine from the Wheelabrator range in India – HB-I, an overhead rail hanger machine, having many first-of its-kind features for the Indian market. This HB-I machine is targeted primarily for the non-foundry automotive ancillaries, and has already received a good response. We plan to introduce some more Wheelabrator machines in India for the automotive and steel processing industries. In short, through this global merger, the Wheelabrator group found a new avenues in Disa India Ltd, with established selling, supply chain management (SCM), manufacturing and service capability, which can be expanded into fast growing new segments, beyond the foundries. ? The Indian automotive sector is shining brightly at present. How does Disa see its potential in the industry? The rising affluence and aspirations of the large and young Indian population, the innovation and cost efficiency of the Indian automotive industry will be the key factors to drive this industry. The pace of road infrastructure development remains a concern. But the very low auto density of Indian population (only 12 cars / 1000 persons in India, as against 125 in China & 840 in USA), will contribute to boosting growth. ? Apart from automotive, which are the other industry sectors where you see maximum revenue potential? Apart from our core sector of foundries, we would probably, in the next few years develop significant sales in automotive and steel processing industry. ? What are the most sought after products in the Indian market? In the Indian foundries, our USP continues to be ‘the complete foundry’ approach. We offer complete solutions for moulding machines, handling systems, sand mixers and also to complete sand processing plants, with shot blast equipment and dust extraction systems. This grossly simplifies the customer’s project execution complexities. We are also seeing a clear trend of foundries being upgraded from the basic manual or semi-manual lines towards high pressure automated lines. With this we aim to continue to be the largest solutions provider. In moulding machines, our solutions – DISAMATIC (vertical flaskless), DISA MATCH (horizontal flaskless), DISA FLEX (horizontal flask) & DISA ARPA (jolt-sqeeze) continue to lead our sales. Going forward, with new introductions from the Wheelbrator range, we expect to become even more stronger than we are in the wheel and air blasting equipment, beyond the foundries. ? With so many solutions and products in the basket what role does innovation play in Disa? Following our principle of staying ahead as the foundry leader, we will continue to bring the latest global technology in India through our R&D Centre in Peenya (Bangalore). We have always believed in making high-end technology affordable to our customers, through localisation and our R&D company – Disa Technology Pvt Ltd plays a key role in achieving this objective. The Indian R&D centre has evolved very well and is now catering to global new product developments. ? How do we read the blueprint of the company to firm its footprint in the Indian soil in the coming days? With the current and also projected high demand for our products and solutions in India, we already have plans for expanding our resources and presence in India. ?
